The office was bright and clean. The staff is all really friendly. I loved that Lacy took her time and listened to what I had to say. I am thrilled that she was also very open to allowing me to make decisions in my own healthcare. It can be incredibly frustrating to sit in a doctor's office, explain what you're experiencing, and feel like you’re just being handed a prescription and rushed out the door. It makes you feel like an item on an assembly line rather than a human being seeking help. However, I did not feel this way at all with Lacy as she seems to be very Patient Care focused. Bonus: I had some labs drawn and I'm considered a "hard stick". It usually takes multiple tries to obtain blood from me. Julia did an amazing job and got samples on the very first try. She is the first provider who has ever truly dug deep into my blood work instead of just brushing symptoms aside. I really wanted to love my experience at 830 Wellness for a variety of reasons. When was researching providers, I was looking for someone who was thorough and dedicated. And in my first two visits I thought they fit the bill. Unfortunately, my experience took a drastic turn for the worse when I was prescribed two medications for migraines that required prior authorization from my insurance. Little did I know, 830 Wellness charges their patients $40 PER MEDICATION to fill out the required prior authorization paperwork for my insurance. If they have to appeal, it’s an additional charge of $40 per appeal. This means I had to pay $80 to 830 Wellness to fill out paperwork BEFORE I can even try get my medication. I tried to address the issue myself with the office about the affordability of charging fees and how it was not patient centered, and creates a huge barrier to care. I reached out to my pharmacy, who stated that they also would not be able to do anything for prior authorization. I reached out to my insurance, who said that charging such fees outside their contract is a problem. My insurance also called the office directly and NEVER received a response in over 3 weeks. I am a nurse, and I am appalled at how this situation has been handled by 830 Wellness. I liked Lacy McMillon so much that I followed her from where she worked for someone else. At that time, I had had pain in my abdomen that had resolved two days prior, but the high temp that had accompanied it worried me. Despite being certain it had been a flare of IBS, Lacy listened to my insistence that the pain was in a different place. She investigated my experience, not her assumptions...a quality often missing in today's docs. As a result, she discovered a chronic appendicitis that an internal medicine doctor had missed. She called me after hours, from her cell, to get me admitted for surgery. And had already investigated the surgeon who was on call that night. All medical people are human, not perfect. But too many are too busy, and too jaded to listen to their patients. And too many lack understanding of the less problematic, natural paths to healing.
